The day was moist...

Though moist is a bit of understatement... it had been raining all night, and a few minutes after leaving Mt Isa the torrential downpour began!

We did have a brief break in the deluge at the border to the Northern Territory...

... and then it didn't let up at all until we had the 300km mark! Finally I could take advantage of the 130km speed limit in the NT for some of the trip, but the deluge continued off and on for most of the 661 km journey to Tennant Creek. I think we were about 15 km from the end of our drive when we saw our first sunshine!

The rain aside it was still a good trip. The Barkly Tablelands are incredibly flat ... as far as the eye could see in most places (though at time the rain limited that to about 100 meters!!). Our only real stop along the way was for fuel at Camooweal just before the QLD/NT border and for lunch at Barkly Homestead.

Tomorrow morning we head for "The Alice", a quick 508 km sprint, hopefully in susnhine (the weather forecast looks promising from about 100km south of here). We are pretty excited about finally hitting the "Red Center"!!

PS: Tennant Creek is a bit of a culture shock for two "white fellas" from Victoria :)
